Resolutions Don’t Have to Wait

2022 is coming.  Well, it’s basically already here, and what will inevitably come with it? A slew of New Year’s Resolutions.  Why wait until January 1st to start working on that goal, though?  You don’t have to wait until the new year for a resolution.  Your resolution starts the moment you “resolve” to do a thing.  Each day, week, month, quarter and year are all great times for improvement, whether it’s personal or professional.  You don’t need a holiday to get going.  Just make up your mind to do so. Maybe the resolution is a “dream big,” or maybe it’s just a reflection.  Maybe it’s a commitment to being more active, intentionality about spending time with your loved ones, being more proactive at work, or starting therapy.

Regardless of the date you choose to make your resolution, make sure that you hold space for it.  Don’t set yourself up for failure by not preparing for successful completion.  For example, if you plan on exercising more and get a gym membership, don’t get one at a gym that’s completely out of the way of your daily travel routes.  That’s already giving you an excuse not to go.   It’s also important to make realistic goals. Start small, and reward yourself for the little victories that will eventually add up to where you want to be.  Most importantly, keep at it, even if you lose momentum or fall completely off.  You can always start again, no matter how far along you are in the year.  The key is not quitting.  Whether it be January 1st, June 15th or December 28th, you can always resolve to do better and be better.  No day of the year has a monopoly on self-improvement, so get started right now!  You’ve got this!  Happy New Year!  Let’s GSD in 2022!
